Marc's Update

Today’s verse of the day (on the YouVersion Bible App - free, no ads, with more than 1,000,000,000 downloads) is taken from Philippians 4:9, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice.” Paul is offering his own example to them as one instance of what it looked like to follow Jesus.
As I reflect on our theme for 2026, “Working Out Our Salvation Together” (which, incidentally,  is taken from earlier in the epistle to the Philippians) this struck me as particularly apt. If we are called together to work out our salvation - the implications, consequences, and realities of following Jesus - then we need role models and we need to be role models. If you’re like me, you’re more comfortable identifying role models than being a role model! However, role modelling - receiving and giving - is built into community. If we only have role models we have not begun to reach maturity. True community is based on the grace of receiving and of giving as we follow Jesus together. To what degree do you feel you can say to those in your life what Paul said to the Philippians? It’s just another reason we need one another; to spur us on as we seek to become more like Jesus.
See you Sunday!

“The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” — Lamentations 3:25–26

The Sacred Space of Disengagement

When urgent problems press, panic pulls us into knee-jerk reactions that are often wide of the mark. In Disengagement, Charles Ringma emphasises putting space between pressing issues and our solutions. Citing Henri Nouwen, he reminds us that many current conflicts will later prove futile. Stepping back isn't procrastination; it is the wisdom of waiting quietly before God to gain clarity and perspective before acting. Reflection: What pressing issue can you step back from today to seek God's quiet perspective before reacting?

Family News

Family News

We extend our condolences to Chris Moffat on the passing of her mother, Lynne Moffat, this week after a period of illness. Chris is our Guest Services Leader and is often one of the familiar faces welcoming people at our morning check-in counters. Please keep Chris and her sister in your prayers this week as they grieve the loss of their mum.

Praying for our HSC Students

The HSC starts on Tuesday 13/10 and we have more than 8 young people who are connected with our church and/or youth group who are sitting exams.  Please pray for:-

Lucy B

Oliver dS

Marcus H

Belle J

Evander L

Hannah S

Naomi S

Hugo vB

...and any others that come to mind.  Pray for peace, clear thinking, focus and a ready recollection of what they have studied.  Above all, pray that they would know their identity and worth are found in Christ and God's love for them, not in their achievements or efforts.

Have something to celebrate, share, or pray about? Whether it's a graduation, engagement, wedding, new baby, new job, house move, health concern, or praise point, we'd love to hear from you. Contact the church office at office@gymeabaptist.org.au or 9521 4611 so we can share in these moments as a church family.
