A message from the Senior PastorMarc's Update On Wednesday, an ice avalanche caused flash flooding in Nepal and Tibet. We have all seen the horrifying images of the rushing wall of water and the haunting before and after scenes. We pray for those who were swept away and for those who survive but whose survival remains tenuous. We pray for the families in Australia and around the world who are desperate for news of their missing loved ones and those who are grieving those who have been lost. We pray for the rescue crews and for the aid workers who are serving so many. We pray for respite and that the danger is truly past. We pray to the one who never becomes numb to our suffering and who invites us to participate with him in doing what we can to alleviate the suffering of others. If you would like to make a financial donation that will make an impact on the ground, consider supporting Baptist World Aid Australia who have partners in the affected regions. Elder Editorial
11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. (Ecclesiastes 3:11-13 NIV11) I have been encouraged by reading through Proverbs and Ecclesiastes lately. I find the pithy language cathartic. Especially in a quiet moment during a busy day. I love how the wisdom literature doesn’t lay down laws, as much as it provides a rough guide to living well. In generalities it keeps things simple for me. I can never understand everything about his created world. But I get to witness its beauty. I don’t have to comprehend all his plans, to feel its eternity in my heart. On top of this, we get to view life with the hope of heaven. The gift of Jesus, and what he has done for us. So we pray for the world we sometimes may not understand. For the plans god has for us that we can’t always know. And for the toil of life. That we cannot just endure it but find satisfaction and happiness. Lincoln Grice | Elder |
