Updates and Upcoming from Gymea Baptist Church

Gymea Baptist Church
GBC Update | 9 May 2025

From the Senior Pastor

Marc's update

Today applications close for the Community Engagement Associate Pastor role here at GBC. The nominating committee will be meeting on Tuesday evening to begin the process of discerning who the Lord is inviting to lead our community of faith in His mission here. The committee is made up of Derek Mullins, Susah Kusch, Phil Lowe, Glen Nelson, Hannah Fraser, and myself. The hope is that we will be in a position to recommend someone to our mid-year member’s meeting at the end of June. Consider this your invitation to be in prayer for the applicants and the committee that we would together discern God’s invitation!

This Sunday is the second week of Encounter, Mother’s Day, and May Mission Month (with Baptist World Aid). It’s going to be a big day! I hope you can join us online or onsite. See you then!

After the huge success of last year's Mother's Day Cake stall, where over $900 was raised from our children's ministry, we're doing it again! Donations VERY welcome! Come prepared to buy up big as we encourage our kids to do good things for & with God, and raise funds for mission.

Our traditional Mother's Day Photo Booth will be back, this year with a Farmers Market theme! Snap a pic with friends and family on Sunday as we honour mothers & spiritual mothers in the Lord.

Lives Changed by Jesus

Pray for those who are unwell or in pain, for those grieving or sorrowful, for those in hospital or in care, for those who are lonely or isolated, for those who are doubting, for those who are carers and supporters, for those who need a touch of grace from the Lord right now.

* Thankgiving for the Drury Family as Mark & Cathy's son is out of hospital after several months and due to start treatment for cancer soon. Pray for readjustment, patience, favour from God for resources & rehab and healing in general. Pray for the entire family in this new season of the journey.

* Pray for Karen Watkins (Marc's PA, Vicki Sherry's PA and GBC Staff Member). Karen had successful emergency neurosurgery last week to remove a cyst in her brain and is currently recovering in hospital. Pray for healing, patience, comfort and strength for the recover process. Pray for her family and friends as they support her and process this event.

*Pray for our Senior Pastor Marc and the GBC Staff team with Karen's absence as the team divide Karen's weekly roles, as well as work towards the National Baptist Senior Pastors Gathering that GBC are hosting, in the midst of a busy May Mission Month.

* Pray for the Encounter series, particularly as new people join LifeGroups, that they'd feel 'part of the family' very soon. Particularly pray for those who are interested in faith, Jesus or 'church adjacent' that they would find out more about Jesus.

* Pray for MMM that we would be a church that is Others-Focussed, Big-Hearted and reflect God's love for the world in how we give to His work in the world. Pray that more people would give, that targets would be reached and that our normal offerings do not decrease.
