Marc's update

Last week we celebrated the baptism of four young women in our community of faith; lives changed by Jesus.

It was, as is always the case, a real blessing to hear the testimony of people who have decided to follow Jesus. There were also some interesting themes over the course of the day. One of the most prominent was the role that serving had had in their journeys of faith. Their involvement in a variety of ministries was one of the things that shaped them and their faith (and, in the case of the two young women in the morning, some of the young people they serve were in attendance). It’s a reminder that service – in any context, but including in a community of faith – is an important catalyst for spiritual growth.

If you are feeling a bit stagnant in your faith, finding a way to serve others where you are focused on their needs and, often, aware of you inability to meet them apart from God’s work through you, can be so helpful. If you’d like to know how you might get involved in our community of faith, do speak to Marjy Robertson (our GBC Serve Team Leader)!

The baptisms were also a good reminder of what we really want to see as a community of faith and of the sorts of practices that are both evidence of a changed life and the things Jesus uses to change us!

I hope you can join us this Sunday as we continue our series – our topic is an ever-increasing recognition of the voice of God.

See you then.

Lives Changed By Jesus - Wednesday, March 19, 2025

This week's questions:
1.What would you say to Christians who argue that baptism is essential to be saved?
2. Is there any situation where you can baptise yourself? If you were compelled to and no other Christians around
3. I except by faith that my “old self” has died and been buried. But the struggle against this “self” can still be strong. Please explain. Newness of life. How?

Your help in this effort will make a meaningful difference!

Join us for a Working Bee at GBC on Saturday 12 April from 8:00am - 12:00pm.

Let’s come together to clean up and show our love for the church site. Whether you’re cleaning skirting boards, scrubbing, or sprucing up with some paint, your help will make a big difference. It’s a great way to serve, connect, and make our space shine.

GBC FAMILY NEWS

Lives Changed by Jesus

An Encouraging Elder Editorial from Greg Williams

There is no fear in love

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard [phrouréõ - from phrourós, a sentinel, guard. In the NT, to watch, guard, keep, preserve spiritually] your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We all know what it’s like to be anxious.

The verses offer a solution for our hearts and our minds, our feelings and our thoughts.

When our heart feels afraid about something we can’t control, we start growing thoughts about how to avoid all the worst possible outcomes and before you know it, we’re anxious. When our minds fill with anxious thoughts, and it can be hard to do anything else.

So clearly, God doesn’t want you or me to be anxious. Jesus gives 8 reasons not to be anxious back in Matthew 6:25 - 33.

So, what do we do? We pray. The pathway towards peace is to let our requests be made known to God.

Instead of trying to figure it out, ask God to work it out.

And believe that God will because God loves you. 1 John 4:18 says ‘there is no fear in love’.

God’s got this.

“My peace I give to you” …

Congregational Prayer Requests

* For those who were baptised last Sunday (March 16) - Praise God for their lives changed by Him and that God will continue to work through them in our community of faith through service in the various programs where they volunteer (Kids - Edge, Youth and Young Adults).

* Please pray for GBC folk in physical, mental and emotional pain. For those who are in hospital, undergoing surgery, medical tests, treatment. For those who are lonely, grieving the loss of a loved one.

* Pray for the Drury Family (Mark and Cathy are part of our AM congregation) who have a family member in hospital undergoing significant medical treatment due to a brain bleed.

* Our community of faith. Firstly, that we might see lives changed for the first time as people place their faith in Jesus. And secondly, that we might see change in all our lives as we continue to follow Jesus.  May our hearts be open and turned towards God as we prepare to hear from and through The Word this Sunday - may His word be a lamp for our feet, a light on our path. (Psalm 119:105)

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16b
