Marc's Update

2026 is really beginning to ramp up. In a few short weeks, the ministry activities of GBC will be in full swing. As we move towards another year of ministry, I find it helpful to remind myself that our life together doesn’t really revolve around school terms, financial quarters, or even ministry cycles. Our life together revolves around the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In the church calendar we are in the season of Epiphany. This is the period after Christmas and before Lent (the season leading up to Easter) in which the church reflects on the manifestation of Christ to the whole world. Traditionally, this is associated with the adoration of the wise men, the baptism of Jesus, and the transfiguration. As I was reflecting on theme of Epiphany, it occurred to me that the church is another manifestation of Christ to the world. We are the body of Christ - the ones who are to represent him in the world.
As we inch closer to the precipice of another busy year, I was reminded that our purpose is not to be busy (though this is not necessarily a bad thing), but to represent Jesus in our community. This reminder provides me with a sense of calm - I am set free from the anxiety of trying to do everything. I am called - we are called - to be faithful representatives of the one who saved us and of his kingdom.
I’m looking forward to another year of ministry, and all the busyness therein, but I do not want to be defined by it. Rather, I hope to be defined by the invitation of Jesus to participate in the Father’s plans and purposes in cooperation with the Spirit. I trust that this will be our desire for 2026 too.

Renovations Starting Soon Help Needed Monday 19th January

The Church Council approved a builder for the upcoming renovations of our Kids Ministry and office areas.  We are planning to start late January/early February.  With this in mind - we need some help! This Monday, 19th January starting from 9:00am, we need able bodied people who can help move furniture and remove things from walls.

The primary impact will be the staff offices. The children's ministry spaces will remain largley untouched until the renovations are complete. Reminder: The works are designed to enable us to move creche and preschool downstairs.

HopeDrive is coming up on the 25th January!
