Marc's Update

A number of years ago we preached a series on the various relationships that God uses to strengthen our faith: God and you (your personal relationship with Jesus), you and few (one or two people who can encourage you and keep you accountable), you and a crew (a Life Group), you and those who do (a ministry area), and you and the zoo (the gathered worship of the whole community). Each of these settings have certain strengths pertaining to our growth in maturity as followers of Jesus. It’s too easy for us to have the bookends of these five contexts: our relationship with God and participation in gathered worship. These are great, but they can lack significant relationships with others that can be so helpful for us. One of the key ministries for us in this is Life Groups.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been highlighting Life Groups in our services with brief videos in which people in our community reflect on the impact that being part of a Life Group has had on their lives. While Life Groups may not be for everyone or for every stage of life, we really want to encourage you to consider getting involved in one if possible. If you’d like more information on Life Groups ask a friend who’s in one, and if you’d like to take the next step you can go to GBC Link Tree and click on the link to Join a LifeGroup.

"Please pray for all those doing the Alpha course - the leaders and participants. With such a diverse group of people there are many questions to match. I tell you truthfully that it is equally scary and exhilarating to lead a group and facilitate discussion. There are difficult questions and experiences that people share but also you see God at work in ways you can’t plan or practise for.
Last week we looked at prayer. “Why does God choose which prayers He’ll answer and which He doesn’t, and children die?!” That kept me thinking all week. It’s a question that we probably all have asked to some extent. Isaiah 55:8-9 sought of helps. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” declares the Lord.As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” So no we won’t understand God’s ways in the big picture, BUT, He has revealed His love for us in Jesus and that is what we put our faith and trust in. When bad things happen in my life I hold firmly to the promises of God. I am His child and “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
So pray for those exploring faith that they’ll discover Jesus loves them and that will be enough to start to follow Him.

Praise Point: Congratulations to Neil Swane, who this week marked 47 years of full-time employment with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. We thank God for His faithfulness and provision throughout those years and celebrate this wonderful milestone with Neil!

Please continue to pray for those who are unwell. Continue to pray for the Drury Family, Mark & Cathy's son Brendan; the Jones family with Jarrod Jones undergoing treatment; and give thanks for Karen Watkins slow but steady recovery from a brain cyst.

Pray for peace, healing, strength, comfort, hope, and wisdom for families, carers, and medical teams.

Have something to celebrate, share, or pray about? Whether it's a graduation, engagement, wedding, new baby, new job, house move, health concern, or praise point, we'd love to hear from you. Staff Update

Staff Update

As you may be aware, in May of 2025 Karen Watkins, Marc’s PA and a key member of our administrative team, required emergency neurosurgery to remove a cyst. Her recovery has been slow and, unfortunately, after nearly a year, Karen submitted her resignation from her role at GBC. Karen has begun to return to work with Hopefield and will continue to be part of our community of faith. We want to thank Karen for nearly ten years of ministry on staff and acknowledge the many ways she has contributed to our community of faith.
Moving forward we will not be replacing Karen’s role as Marc’s PA but have appointed Altavi Young-Atwell as our Administrative Assistant 3 days a week. Altavi joined our staff team on back-to-back contracts while Karen was recovering and, upon Karen’s resignation, has joined us in a permanent part-time role. We are grateful for God’s provision of Altavi in the midst of a difficult transition and look forward to future ministry together.
