General Objective of Project
HopeStreet – Urban Compassion together with Woolloomooloo Baptist Fellowship work with poor and marginalised members of the inner city, to foster community and provide healthy life-choice opportunities for people struggling with addiction, poverty, homelessness, and mental illness. There are two components of this project:

Women’s Space

Women’s Space is a safe space open four days per week, for street based sex workers, offering a welcoming environment and an opportunity to make positive life choices. Women are welcomed to use the facilities, relax and build relationships with each other and the support workers. Night Outreach connects our support workers with sex workers on the streets, offering them a hot drink, something to eat, supplies and support. Home and hospital visits, detox/rehab support and advocacy are other ways the program supports women. With 80% homeless, the program offers pathways to accommodation and education/job training.

Employment Training Program
This program works with the long-term unemployed providing training, support and meaningful employment with normal contractual commitments. The program accompanies employees on their first steps in an often difficult journey. Each person is monitored throughout their employment, beginning with only a few hours per week and increasing as appropriate for the individual. The goals and timelines set for each individual - whether health, addiction or housing - are reflective of their situation. Support is available at all times, including times of relapse.

Expected Outcome of the Project
Our funding will provide the following:
•    To resource the women’s space where more than 40 women per week will be ministered too.
•    To assist 15 people who are homeless and are long-term unemployed begin the Employment Training Program.
