Healthy H2O

Project Name:

  Healthy H20

Agency:

  Samaritan’s Purse

Country:

  Cambodia

Tax Status:

  Tax Deductible

Target:

  $50,000.00

General Objective of Project

It is estimated that only one third of people in Cambodia have access to safe drinking water, highlighting the overwhelming need to increase access to clean water as one of the key focuses in development.

When a village is selected to be the beneficiary of this water project, a church development committee is established. Members from the local churches unite to work alongside village elders and together under the supervision of Samaritan’s Purse the project is implemented. Therefore this project becomes a ministry of the local church providing many opportunities for the gospel.

Although some aspects of the implementation of this water project require skilled people, the program aims to encourage community participation. Community people participate according to their ability, and contribute to a savings fund that will be used for future maintenance on the wells, ponds or bio-water sand filters. During the construction phase people from within each village are encouraged to participate in the construction of the water project.

Expected Outcome of the Project

  • To build 400 Bio-Sand Household Water Filters
  • To build 2 large public ponds which collect rainwater for the entire village
  • To build 6 deep wells which provide water to approximately 10 families per well
  • To increase village awareness regarding the quality of drinking water, and provide hygiene and sanitation training to all community members receiving the new clean water solutions.

This project will see at least 5,500 people have access to safe clean drinking water.
