Airwaves into Yemen
General Objective of Project Yemen is a failed state on the brink of collapse and is one of the poorest and least evangelized nations in the world. Islam is the official religion and the law is based on strict Islamic shari’a law. It is illegal for Muslims to become Christians, and yet Yemenis are giving their lives to Jesus and face extreme danger and isolation from their families. This project seeks to introduce Yemenis to Jesus and to encourage them to be followers of him through shortwave Feba radio. Programs beamed into Yemen cover topics such as, you are not alone, which gives testimonies of Muslims who’ve come to faith. Stories of the prophets is a program that links characters and stories (Adam, Abraham, David etc.) that the Koran and the bible have and gives the biblical picture of that story. Another program called, Reality Church offers music, bible readings, dramatizations and sermons. This program has been crucial in resourcing home churches that meet in secret.
Expected Outcome of the Project The Reality Church program aims to specifically strengthen the embryonic church in Yemen. Our funding will provide: · Contribute to buying airtime so that programs can be broadcasted · Contribute to supporting programmers who produce the above programs
An e-mail which was received from a programmer states: ‘I met a man the other day who thought he was the only Muslim who believed in Jesus Christ. He thought nobody else does, so he was scared. He couldn’t talk about it; he was so secretive about it. During the night he switches on the radio to listen to feba programmes. He can’t wait till that time comes, because he loves listening to his little radio – to the songs, to the scripture reading, to the teaching – that is his church’. |
