Homework Attack

Homework Attack is a program run by Gymea Baptist Church at Miranda Public School. Students who have difficulty focusing or concentrating on their homework are invited to be part of this special group meeting weekly. Watch this video that shows the program in action.

Children are given a healthy afternoon tea, play some running games and then settle down to complete their homework with our team of volunteers. They give one-on-one attention when required and help children achieve tasks their peers are completing. Children’s’ self esteem and behavior is improved when they realise they can be successful with a small amount of assistance. Children feel valued, supported and can be proud of their efforts due to this important ministry and its dedicated and loving volunteers.

Contact the church office for more information.

Kids Hope

Kids Hope is a World Vision initiative supporting primary school aged children (K – 6) in a caring environment. It is a one-on-one mentoring program, the mentor meeting with the child in their school for one hour each week. Click here to watch a video about our Kids Hope ministry.

GBC began its involvement with Kids Hope in 2011, partnering with Kareela Public School. We now have 13 mentors at the school. Our Grays Point Congregation partners with Grays Point Public School with four mentors involved in the program. If you would like to join the mentoring team or would like more information, please contact our Kids Hope coordinator Leanne Langford 9540 1523.

Manna

Manna is a ministry of Gymea Baptist Church that supports families in need in the Sutherland Shire by providing three meals per week, for four consecutive weeks.

Most of our referrals come from local agencies, including Orana Early Support Service. Through these referrals we are able to help families who are in genuine need. How we do this: via church members who volunteer. For more information on Manna, or to volunteer, please contact Leeanne Smith or Gillian Hill via the Church Office on 9521 4611.
